Freedom-class Starship

on Thu Jul 04, 2013 9:36 pm
Introducing the Freedom-class Starship!

Picture 1:

The Freedom-class is a light vessel, consisting of one Galaxy-class warp nacelle attached directly to an oval-shaped saucer. It is lightly armed, carrying six phaser arrays.

Picture 2:

One of these ships, the USS Firebrand, was present for the disastrous battle of Wolf 359, where she and thirty-eight other vessels were destroyed in combat against a Borg Cube.

This ship is dedicated to all those who gave their lives to ensure our freedom.
While I live, your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Niiiice! Now that's a cool little (cough cough, canon cannon fodder, cough cough) ship! The Freedom is a neat ship, and what better day to release it than the 4th of July (in America at least)

Good ship, great dedication! Smile

Impressive! The single warp nacelle is a very creative technique, too. Though... err, would that make the ship a bit slow only having one source of thrust instead of two?

Well, not really. Warp speed is not, I don't think, based on the number of nacelles (just like hyperspace speed isn't dependent on the number of hyperdrives). However, one of the 'rules' (more like guidelines) is that warp nacelles should come in pairs (has to do with efficiency or something like that) so single-nacelled ships are rather rare. To my knowledge only two have ever been seen on-screen (the other being the USS Kelvin from the 2009 movie), although computer panels have showed a couple more.
