Shrike Class Strike Fighter Empty Shrike Class Strike Fighter

The Shrike is a class of Short Range Strike Fighters designed and produced by United Star Fighters Incorporated, in service with Star Force and the United Federation of Planets.

As a Short Range fighter, the Shrike does not require excessive amounts of hull space for fuel, which in the case of this fighter, houses a large, but relatively fuel efficient engine.

The Shrike is designed only for atmospheric combat at sublight velocities, and is incapable of warp speed. Thus it is not built with a deflector dish or a warp core.

Weaponry consists of two heavy phaser cannons, two light phaser cannons, two rockets, and several bombs. Because of the Shrike's small size, it also lacks in much of the power that comes readily available with its bigger brother Star Fighters. Thus, it is electronically limited to firing only 5 rounds of each heavy phaser cannon each before putting them into safe mode, aka turning them off. It also lacks the ability to regenerate projectile weapons.

This lack of power also reflects to the Shrike's defensive abilities. Shielding is very basic, with the Shrike relying almost entirely on outer hull armor to keep it protected when under flak. Its small size however makes it a hard target for gunners.

The Shrike is very quick and agile, with plenty of single-engined power at the tap, allowing the Shrike to accelerate very quickly. This is the Shrike's strongest point.

Shrikes are typically deployed against large, 'stationary' targets like military bases or carriers. Mission lengths are usually very short, as Shrikes are built to launch fast, attack fast, and leave fast. They are incapable of sticking around.

Well, now that I've finished uploading all my old models, (give or take a few) I can start working on new fighters, which means I'm taking constructive criticism. Smile

edit: I'm wrong, there's still one more fighter to go. Or two, if you count the Shrike's Star Fighter version, which I plan on remaining unposted. Razz

Now this deffninitly looks like a space shuttle. Razz Not exactly how I envisioned a short-range strike fighter, but ehh. I have but two criticism (and none are in design, other than weapons compliment design. Razz ) One, rather than auto turning off when the pilot may find himself in need of that sixth or seventh shot, why not allow the pilot to use it sparingly and turn it off when he can. Taht way it retains a certain amount of versitility and redundancy should the need arise. He can turn it off after three and save the power, but use one more if he needs to. Second, for a short-range fighter against large targets, I would suggest the ability to use larger cannons and having lots more missiles (emphasis on lots, you know me. Razz ), It's short-range, so it doesn't need to scrap weapons to save on fuel neccisarily, that would be more of a long-range fighter. (Like the other one you recently put up, the name escapes me at the moment and I'm too lazy to look it up. Razz ) I'm sure it can hang around long enough to dump an extra fourteen missiles into a target. Razz

I knew you were going to bring up missiles. Razz I am too lazy to try and fit missiles on this, sorry, but the thought crossed my mind and I very much wanted to give it missiles. Neutral
