Star Falcon L

on Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:15 pm
Compared to the Falcon IV, the L is quite lacking in brute force should both fighters, say, commence the firing of everything or apply full chemical boost to the engines.

But the L doesn't stand for Lack.  It stands for Light, because that's exactly what the Star Falcon L is, lighter than the Star Falcon IV.  The Star Falcon L is faster and more agile than any previous Star Falcon, with the thanks going directly to the L's lighter weight.

Now how did the L get so light?  Simple.

1. Two of the engines were deleted, with the remaining two engines being integrated into the wings.  This results in less brute power compared to the Star Falcon IV, but the L's engines have since been tuned and upgraded.  The new engines are not only more fuel efficient than the previous engines, but they are also nearly twice as powerful.

2. Along with the two engines, several weapons systems have been removed.  Specifically, the Star Falcon has been stripped of the immense amounts of phaser cannons, pulverization cannons, and that expensive spatial weapon.

3. The bulky landing gear has also been completely replaced by antigravity nodes.

4. The combination of 2. and 3. has allowed the deflector dish to be moved up to the space previously occupied by that expensive spatial weapon.

5. And finally, thanks to the combination of 2., 3., and 4., nearly half of the ventral hull's bulk has been deleted too.

Overall the Star Falcon L is much better than the Star Falcon IV.  Comparing the two, the Star Falcon IV still has a higher top speed in space because it has double the engines and thus double the brute thrust, but in an atmospheric environment, the Star Falcon L prevails due to its lightness and nearly as strong engines.

The Star Falcon L also has a longer range and bigger energy reserves.

And as previously stated, the Star Falcon L has much better handling and maneuverability than the Star Falcon IV.  Turning the Star Falcon has never been bad, but it was never top notch either, and smaller, purpose built turning fighters could give the Star Falcon quite a bit of trouble in a dogfight.  Now, the Star Falcon L's handling is right up there with the best of the best.

You don't know how happy I am when I say this, but I can proudly announce that the Star Falcon lineup has been returned to its former grace with the beautiful Star Falcon L.  Very Happy

Despite being better, the Star Falcon L doesn't completely replace the Star Falcon IV. The Star Falcon IV, and even the older yet Star Falcon III, are still of use to Star Force. They're still fast, they can still turn, and they are much more heavily armed than the Star Falcon L, making these older Star Falcons great in the long range strike fighter role.

NOICE!!!! It's so.... streamlined.... lacking clusters of weapons... graceful.... GREAT WORK!!!! THIS is what I have been suggesting. Very Happy (though it is a bit short in length compared to its other dimensions) well done Talmid.
