XG-124 Excalibur

on Fri Jul 18, 2014 1:50 am
~ Start Entry ~

The XG-124 Excalibur light assault tank was created to be utilized on recon and quick assault missions.  The primary cannon remains locked forward unless needing to be used otherwise.  The Cannon itself is controlled by the driver who is trained to utilize a special split control screen to control the tank and the cannon at the same time.

JSYK the Excalibur and Katana as well as the soon to be posted Shuriken were all created at the same time.

- Specifications -

Crew: Driver/Gunner x1
Max Speed: 60 mph
Armor: 7 inches of High Density Tenatium with a light coating of Ablative Armor
Weapons: Light Sub-Shock Cannon x1 (it is possible to attach other weapon pods onto the side thanks to the modular weapon rail system)

Unsure if I will be able to build one in LDD because of the unique wheel/tread structure

Just saying, in addition to everything else, I love the treatds!

I would build one in LDD but just make the treads different.

Looks a little too short/stubby IMHO, though I understand if that's due to the amount of bricks you had or tread design. Other than that, very nice!

This is a nice tankette; low-profile, moderate firepower, close infantry support. The flat surfaces and 90 degree angles won't do much in the way of stopping small arms, however, so that might bear some consideration. If you were to make this in LDD, just leave the treads off, rather than redesigning them. We know what's supposed to be there. Razz

@ AA - I could probably use different wheels in the LDD variant.

@ Mighty - It was because of the treads. Razz

@ Kojan - AA is right. Razz However... just curious, is there a way to get the LDD screenshots to be PNG files with blank backgrounds?

VERY nice! It's basically perfect as a light assault tank! I love how it is a mix of WWII and modern, in a small package. Might I suggest adding a permanent 30cal though? I know it has attachment rails, but it just feels like it needs an infantry defense gun. Otherwise a GREAT tank! Nice work!

Hmmm... I may do that. Razz Maybe figure a way to add it to the turret.

@Jred: To get blank backgrounds, I don't even use the "view" mode anymore. In the build mode, I use the large 2x2 cylindrical column, attach it to the bottom of whatever I'm working on, and then add another one or two dozen of these pieces to "move" the grid downwards, as to not appear when viewing the model from the sides, bottom, front, or back. Finally, delete all but the bottom column pieces, take a screenshot with print screen, paste it in Paint, save it, and you're done!

Well, you'd still need to crop out the interface...

A little late for that; I already don't edit most of my pics at all. Razz

Blank backgrounds? Just use the Control + K shortcut. Or, you can go to Edit, and then there will be an option with that shortcut in parenthesis. Now, when you post them they'll have a grey background, and in fact the image itself might have a grey background, but it won't have any patterns or images if that was your concern.
