Recon Tank

The Recon Tank, which you've watched me slowly figure out Razz
Recon Tank:
The Recon was designed as a way to make up for the lack of a lighter armored vehicle in the Imperial Marines. Mechs lacked the speed that some units required, and were in fact more heavily armed than some thought was required in certain situations. Despite the mobility of Weapons support infantry units armed with full rifle-caliber repeaters (7.62x51 and 12.7x99mm), rockets and missiles, and mortars (60 and 81mm) the lack of heavy armor on the MUVs these units used for transport generated a problem.

As such, the Recon tank was ordered to be put into production. Armed with a 90mm smooth-bore mass-driver cannon and a 7.62mm repeater, protected with the heavier armor of a tank, and with treads designed for a vehicle at least twice as large, the Recon is able to keep up with lighter, speedier vehicles like the MUV, while still bringing in direct firepower stronger than any other light unit.

Despite the smaller caliber of the Recon's cannon (compared to the Ranger's dual 105mm cannons and the Raider's 120mm cannon), it makes for a great armor-hunter, the slimmer profile allowing armor-piercing rounds to blast through metal, ceramic, composite, any kind of defensive barrier with what is fast becoming the standard round for the Imperial Marines' cannons: a two-stage explosive round. The first stage penetrates the armor, and after passing through, the rest of the round (filled with high explosive) detonates, destroying what remains inside, as well as wrecking the rest of the armor.

While this round is currently specialized for the Recon, artillery units also use two-stage rounds for bunker-busting and even attacking capital ships that might be in orbit, or deploying transports for other ground units.

Recon Tank LDD file.

Wow! The Recon Tank looks like it's more heavily than lightly armored with all the cool detail and the bulkiness that comes with being a tank. It's very nice!

I didn't say it was lightly armored. I said it was a light armored unit. Razz Thank you for the compliment!

Dude! Nice usage of the gold bar piece for armor plating! I also like the nose-like piece on the front.

Very cool indeed. My one issue is this: why just "recon tank"? Could you not think of a better name or something?

That aside, it looks really cool!

^^^ In my understanding, the Grelfucan Marines prefer to spend their time killing enemy stuff rather than coming up with complicated names for things. I'm sure they have a name for it in their own language. Razz (Not an insult to Grelfucan Marines, just telling the truth. Thay'd rather blast things than yap.)

I LOVE this tank! Very Happy
Your use of the ingot piece as (I assume?) ERA is brilliant. I'm going to steal that design. Razz
And the armored gunners seat is beautiful... in a "you can't touch this, I'm sitting behind six inches of Durasteel" kind of way. Very nice work! This thing looks fun to drive around! Very Happy

Thank you! Honestly, the front part of the tank's body was originally a Mech cockpit, but...I don't have a single idea on how to build a Mech... Razz

I don't appreciate the comment. As for your question, no, I did not want or need a "better name" because the name already fits my pattern for naming tanks: Recon, Ranger, Raider...think about US Special Forces.

Well, yes, Grelfucan Marines typically spend their times figuring out ways to blow things up than come up with names for doing so. And, yes, that's the gold bar/ingot piece. Though, if you're stealing it, you're stealing it from Kojan by proxy. Razz

And, yes, it's intended to keep the gunner safe. Should the driver be injured, the gunner can act as a dug-in gun emplacement. Razz Though, it's hard to kill the driver when he runs you over with the treads of his tank...
