Paladin Class Destroyer (Mk. IV)

on Tue Aug 26, 2014 12:26 am
~ Start Entry ~

This is sorta a repost... I've made a few minor changes, but the biggest change is that one of the bricks on the side doesn't get removed when you open the .lxf  XD  And I smoothed out the hull to give it a more sleek look.

The Paladin class starship was created at a time that hope was greatly needed.  It was the beginning of the war against the Spectre and it was obvious that mere power wasn't going to be enough to stop the spectre.  Something else had to be done.

A new type of ship was needed.  One that would inspire courage and hope.  One that would be able to fly circles around the Spectre, making fools out of them.  And thus the Paladin class starship was born.  Capable of flying at Warp 9.9 indefinetly and with the agility to turn on a dime, the Paladin is just that.

The Paladin is also built with a very large payload capacity so that it can ferry a large fighter payload and large Marine detachment.

Living up to it's namesake, the Paladins of France (Basically France's version of the Knights of the round table) there are only thirteen in Johnnyred's fleet.  (1 for the namesake of the ship, and 12 named after each of the Paladins)  The ships of the line in the Texas Rangers are listed below.

PCG 3500 Paladin
PCG 3501 Roland
PCG 3502 Anseis
PCG 3503 Berenger
PCG 3504 Engeler
PCG 3505 Gerard of Roussillon
PCG 3506 Gerer
PCG 3507 Gerin
PCG 3508 Oliver
PCG 3509 Oton
PCG 3510 Samson
PCG 3511 Yvoire
PCG 3512 Yvon

There are seven other starships of the line that Johnnyred has created as gifts to friends, aside from that, there are a few others that have been given to Starfleet, the Delver Group, and PCG starbase defense.

PCG 3513 To Dino272727
PCG 3514 To Scarecrow
PCG 3515 To Dalu50
PCG 3516 To Alien_Ant2
PCG 3517 To Talmid
PCG 3518 To Reina
PCG 3519 To Flipz

These users may download the file, name their ship whatever, and modify however they see fit.

Well, now it's uploaded, so I can complain about how OP it is. Razz The Paladin is one of my favorites personally, and it's nice to see an update. Razz

My one issue: does a battleship really need an entire ground invasion force? I mean, when are you going to use all those tanks? When you invade a planet? I'd be amazed if this thing could even maintain altitude in an atmosphere, much less land! Razz

(also, does anyone else notice that part of the mediafire link spells out "y0u" ? Razz) [Nvrm, doesn't anymore. Razz]

I actually copy and pasted the specs part from anlther one snd I must've missed editing that part. Razz

However. Starships don't really enter orbit....

Thanks J-red! Beautiful ship! I love the Paladin! Always have, always will.

Mighty: cargo transporters would help.

Excellent design! I like your style of a saucer, engineering hull, and four warp nacelles. Very cool! I really like the saucer section's detail; looks great! Very Happy

One thing though. I feel like the stern of the Paladin is underarmed. I mean, those aft weapons won't do enough to stop a decent sized fighter contingent aiming at your nacelles or pylons or hull in general. Or corvettes which swoop around to the back and open fire. However, other than that, this ship is great!

(Before anyone says that this is underpowered because PXR said it was but I didn't say it wasn't, I *do* feel 20 fore quantum tubes is a bit excessive.) Razz

@Tetra: Lol! But Tetra does have a point: where are the torpedo tubes? If they're invisible...I'm not buying it. Razz

Torpedo tubes are never noticeable. (Not even on the movie models)

@J-red: :O Razz So, are you saying that my guns are theoretically more powerful than torpedo launchers? Razz That makes me feel good if it does. Razz Or maybe I should put some more rocket launchers. Razz

Actually, torpedo launchers are visible... you just have to look very closely. And notice where torps were fired from.

So basically you couldn't really make then on ships in the scale we build in.

@J-red: No, but what I mean is that if torpedo launchers are small (I'm assuming), than they can't be seen. That would make a basic AA TMC-1's barrel larger and longer than a torpedo launcher, theoretically making the blast more powerful. Of course one's energy/electrons and one's a projectile, but you get my point. Razz

You also have to take into account that the power source makes a difference in the power of a weapon.

I already do build them in. Razz Although I normally just mark pairs of launchers as one launcher is small/glowing red, so warships have a bunch of ugly bright red dots. But it's a matter of preference.

Weapons power. A nuclear grenade trumps a conventional artillery round every time. Anti matter, or zero-point-energy beats that conventional weapon even more so.

@Dino: Lol, ugly bright red dots. Razz Antimatter requires atom smashers right?

No, just any old contact with matter will cause a reaction (of course, getting each molecule to react is a whole different story, but eh). Razz

@Tetra: Wait, so how do you create antimatter? I always thought you use atom smashers to create antimatter, which collides with matter and causes huge explosions. Then a magnetic field or something can cause normal matter to not touch with the antimatter. IDK, it's from a book I read awhile ago. Razz
