Akira Class Heavy Cruiser

on Fri Aug 29, 2014 1:07 pm
~ Start Entry ~

The Akira Class heavy cruiser was designed in response to the rising tensions with the Cardassian Union.  It was conceived in 2350, and the Akira's first launch was in 2368.  However, despite it's high test results, it was assigned low priority status until the battle of Wolf-359 in which much of Starfleet's ships were lost.

When the Borg returned in 2370, the Akira classes preformed admirably against the Borg forces inflicting heavy damages.  The Akira class later became the standard heavy cruiser used in the Dominion War.

YESSSS! Very Happy The Akira! I love this ship!

It's funny to note that the NX-Class looks nearly the same as the Akira, except its nacelles are angled up instead of down and the pylons are flatter.

@ Talmid - It does look like that.... Razz Although it doesn't have the connectors between and the Akira is significantly larger.

THAT IS TOTALLY GORGEOUS!!!!!

I'm not an expert on the Akira, and therefore can't say what it's like as an Akira class; but let me tell you that, as a starship, this thing is practically perfect. It is excellently balanced. The nacelles, nacelle pylons, saucer, detailing, color scheme, everything...this thing is big, bad, and beautiful!

Well...

I guess the designers just got a little lazy.  It's Star Trek, after all. Razz

edit: Dang. Oh well.

Image doesn't work. Razz.

BTW. My .lxf won't either. I made folders and put my .lzfs in them AFTER I had posted them already. So ANY of my .lxfs will not work.

First off, let me say that this is BEAUTIFUL!

But the engineering (pylons? Razz ) weapons pod, and nacelle pylons are too small compared to that massive saucer. The nacelles should be visible on both sides of the saucer, not behind it. It feels saucer heavy. Perhaps making a somewhat smaller saucer? Or a larger aft section?
(huge pic)
Spoiler:

That said, this thing is awesome! Those nacelles! Just gorgeous! Very Happy  The workmanship itself is top notch, it's just that the assorted ship's components aren't quite to scale with each other. But this is one awesome ship  none-the-less! Smile
