Rhode Island Class Escort

on Wed Oct 08, 2014 12:33 pm
~ Start Entry ~

(SO... S-H uploads the largest ship we've seen yet, and what do I do?  Upload the smallest ship we've seen yet.  Yeah.  Take that.  Razz)

The Rhode Island Class (Which is one of my oldest starships) was developed as  an escort class that could be loaded within a larger ship such as the Andromeda class and be transported along with the ship it was escorting.

While Rhode Island classes are tiny, and not heavily armed, they are very agile and fast, and are capable of getting in closer and under the enemies skin than even the Defiant class.

Rhode Island class ships are always operate out of a mothership, starbase, or planet, there is no crew quarters except a small break room and cooking quarters.  However, thanks to the fact that there is a small crew (basically bridge and engineering) and there are no unnecessary rooms aboard the craft, an ample amount of armor was added without taking away from the speed or agility of the craft.

- Specifications -

Length: 45 Meters
Beam: 50 Meters
Height: 25 Meters
Deflector Dish: Alpha Class Deflector Dish
Armor: 2 Ft. High Density Tenatium, coating of ablative armor.
Warp Nacelle: Alpha Class Warp Nacelles
Average Cruising Speed: Warp 9
Maximum Cruising Speed: Warp 9.9
Weapons: Quantam Phaser Banks x3 (two forward, one aft), Quantam Torpedo Tubes x2 (one forward and one aft)

Oh, that's adorable! *cough* *ahem* I mean, that's great, J-Red! Razz What is that, 15 pieces? I love tiny ships with attitudes like this. Nice work! Very Happy

Ah, I remember the Rhode Island. Doesn't seem impressive, 'til you remember how hard it is to build such small models that still look decent. Razz

Ironically, this is the second (I think) case where I'm actually saying "MOAR GUNZ!!!!!". Razz Three Quantum phasers and a pair of torpedo tubes is a little meh (also, you spelled "quantum" with a second A instead of a U, and it's beginning to bug me Razz). Another thing: if this is designed to operate out of a mothership, how/why can it pull Warp 9.9? Razz I could see a lower warp factor, but 9.9 seems really high....

Yeah, it was actually harder to build than you might imagine. Razz

As far as weapons go, it's actually not to underarmed considering that the Defiant has 4 Phaser Cannons, 3 Phaser Emitters, and 7 Photon Torpedo tubes. I'd say it's fairly comparable, especially considering that the Rhode Island is considerably smaller than the Defiant.

Also, Warp Factor of 9.9 isn't high at all. It's average. Razz The average speed of the Defiant the year it came into service was Warp 9.5. Razz So... considering that we're like 200 years later, I'd say that 9.9 is pretty reasonable. Razz

That is small!  I hope you don't mind if I try and make a micro ship too now.  It sounds like fun!

It's so cute! Razz I feels a little blocky to be honest, and the engineering section seems a bit wide, but I'd like to see myself do better at such an insanely small scale. Razz Nice work! It's really good to see you bringing the PCG classics into your modern level of skill.

Talmid, exactly what I'm planning to do now. Razz

Nice little ship. I really like it. Very Happy It looks very cool, even if it is very small. And @Tetra, you have no idea how hard it is to build tiny ships like this, and make them look cool. Razz For me, it takes the same if not more time to build a tiny ship as a larger ship. Razz Anyway, great job! Maybe I should build a smaller scale ship too... Razz

YOU'RE JUST JELLY! YOUR FACE IS TOO BLOCKY!!!!

Wha? Oh, no, I was just talking to my Minecraft avatar.

Maybe I can find something to make it look less blocky, but I doubt it, considering the size.

And we totes should. Chibi starships for everyone. Razz

LOL, that IS a small little thing! Razz

It's not my favorite of your vessels, mainly because of its blocky design, but then again, it isn't easy to make things real smooth when things are so small. Razz

I'd say you did a good job given the size of it. And you possibly set a record on the PCG's smallest ship! Wink

Technically, Jared50000 has the smallest constructed ship (The PCG Scout, it only had two pieces) however, I believe that if were were to bring the Scout into Perfect Grade it would be a decent bit larger than the Rhode Island, somewhere between the RI and the Defiant class. I know Jared said the crew was at least 30, the RI only has like 10. I don't think it could fit much more than that.

I've already built a tiny ship.... I felt inspired by this. It's longer, but narrower, than the RI. I call it... the Connecticut class. Now to bother uploading it. Razz

You haven't seen my new micro ship. I don't have a name yet. I might even post it tonight. Razz

Wait... I already have a tiny ship!  Around 30, actually! Razz (Delivery Ship series)

Seriously though, the smallest ship has only 2 pieces, eh?

Well, this one has only 1 piece!

Introducing the PCG Minute:

Beat that! Razz

This is by far the laziest thing I have ever done.

Spoiler:

I just did Talmid! It's a stealth ship with a perfect cloaking device. Total piece count: zero!
Yeah. I did just beat your smallest ship! Razz

I actually built a ship with negative studs once. I tried to post it, but the universe divided by zero and crashed.
