Argo Class Supercruiser

on Sun Feb 22, 2015 12:37 pm
~ Start Entry ~

The PCG Argo, the first superweapon ship of the PCG, now remade into it's new glorious state. (Please note that it's current design retcons the previous two designs and they are no longer considered canon.)  The Argo class is the culmination of a long period of research on the part of Johnnyred.  Though initially just a thought, and a theory, the appearance of the Spectre greatly increased the need for a starship with a superweapon.  And thus Johnnyred discovered Wave Motion technology and with it, the Wave Motion Gun and the Wave Motion Engine.

The Argo is essentially a flying cannon, there are other weapons systems, but those are primarily for last ditch defense.  It is always accompanied by two OMEGA Class Shield ships along with a full escort of cruisers and at least one battleship.  Despite its massive size, it maintains decent maneuverability thanks to massive maneuvering engines located at various points around the ship.  Though it is capable of breaking Warp 10, it typically travels at Warp 9.9 using its warp nacelles, and only using Warp 10 during emergency situations or special attack runs.

The Argo has a smaller crew capacity than most supercruisers due in part to the massive cannon, but primarily due to thicker than normal armor on the ship.  The Wave Motion Gun can only be activated by the Council Member that possesses it, a retinal, voice, and DNA scan are all necessary to utilize the weapon.

There are only three Argos in existence and I am giving the other two to Scare and Dino.  They may refit them, recolor them, name them, etc. how they see fit.  If anyone else wishes to try anything with the Argo, feel free, though you are not allowed to integrate it into your or anyone else's fleet without permission.

It's beautiful! Very Happy I love the quad-warp-nacelle design, and the bow is just awesome. Love it! Razz

While it's a bit short to be a proper "supercruiser", the Argo is looking fine indeed! I love the Halo-esque aesthetic and general design! The ship is absolutely gorgeous. Razz My one criticism would be the nacelle pylons; personally, they just don't click. Otherwise, great work!

Well now, this ship wouldn't happen to be inspired by, uh, a certain ship type from a certain sci-fi video game series...? Razz

I'll have to agree with Tetra that the warp nacelles don't quite fit with the otherwise blocky-ish aesthetic of the ship, but other than that it looks great. Maybe too much white overall, but very nice otherwise. And even the nacelles are a good design, despite not blending well with the ship's design. Razz

@ Dino and Spud - Danke! Razz

@ Mighty - I don't know if it's necessarily the pylons, I think it's more the whole aft section.

@ Arik - In part, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe. Razz Personally, I don't think the nacelles look too bad, but to each his own, as far as the white, my fleet has a specific coloration, ergo the white.

@ S-H - High praise from the great Star-Hunter! I agree! The rear section does need some work, I may possibly refit the ship after I finish some stuff I'm currently working on. I've got some ideas, but nothing major yet. And the rear does need something major.

Love the design! Love it! I might put the nacelles close to the hull, thaz about it. If you need ideas for the rear, put moar gunz onn itz. It always works for me. Razz

I was thinking perhaps about an aft turret... not sure about the embedded nacelles though.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHAAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Seriously, J-red, this is one of your best works. I love the new style you seem to be using lately...like a futuristic carrier-styled starship. This is your best carrier-style ship so far. Excellent weaponry, design, detail, color scheme, etc. Wonderful job!

Now that I look at this beauty again, I have a couple ideas for a refit that may help the stern area blend a little better with the rest of the ship. Is it all right if I take a crack at it?
