Cor Redor Chapter 1: Deep Space 57

on Sun Jun 02, 2013 9:58 pm

Deep Space 57 was a deep space station located in the "Southern" area of the PCG/Federation territory. It served as a refuelling point for the many ships that crossed it's path. Merchants and warships, private vessels and public transit, they all stopped here to resupply, refuel, and rearm. Starbase 57 also served as the nucleus of smaller stations near it. As the largest and most prominent station around, it was fittedas a relay center for ships and stations as it could send signals farther and faster than any other station about. Thus it served as the nucleus for the other stations scattered about, taking in their sensor readings and communications broadcasts and relaying them back to other command centers in the nucleus of the Federation. It also acted as the gathering point for all the deep-space sensors, which monitored and alerted Deep Space 57 of sub-space fluctuations, pirate activities, previously undiscovered alien races, ships in distress, and the like. But these small, often unmanned outposts where useless without Deep Space 57 to connect them all. It was an oasis in the desert of interstellar space. No other such station existed in it's area. A handful of smaller ones did, but they all relied on Deep Space 57. It was a vital life-line between a large patch of planets and the rest of the Federation, a bridge spanning the interstellar gap that ensured safe and expedient travel. And that bridge was about to burn...

The starbase was a very large one. Not even close to the largest, but a monster none-the less. It sported over a hundred quantum torpedo bays, twenty acoustic torpedo bays, and over five-hundred phaser arrays. Since the PCG came to own and care for it, it had also been fitted with six quad-oblivion cannons, which were otherwise mounted on Ronins. It also kept a hanger entirely devoted to protective fighter craft. With the starbase being such an important link in the network of bases across the Federation, the PCG had taken steps to ensure it was protected from Pirates and various enemy factions that were running about, such as the Yor. It was not, however, equipped to deal with the two hundred and fifty Cor Redor Ships that appeared without warning, on any kind of sensor. Ninety CRS-B frigates swarmed around the thirty CRS-C Battleships, while a a hundred and thirty CRS-A scouts swarmed around shooting down the fighters that swarmed out of DS 57's hangers. The fight was intense but brief. Even with the fire-power of such a heavily armed star-base, it was unprepared to face the unique, and quite simply different, technology of the Cor Redor, and could not stand against such over-whelming odds. The CRS' biggest worry was manoeuvring their ships so that they all had room to fire, so unbalanced was the massacre. The Cor Redor kept their fighters close to their ships, using their highly potent Anti-Fighter towers to shoot down the enemy fighters that struggled to punch through the shielding and armor of the Cor Redor's fleet. The two Federation Galaxy class ships and single PCG Osprey class ship were also overwhelmed, though they fought valiantly, managing to take down a CRS Battleship. Soon though it became apparent that the CRS wanted nothing but the complete and total annihilation of everything in the sector. Even when the Galaxy classes where disabled they were pounded by the CRS until they were nothing but dust. Once the starbase was sufficiently weakened the battleships, having been using their full fire-power against the star-base but not moving in too close (leaving that to the more expendable ships), drew farther away from it and just sat out in the open, pounding it with their Glinglay cannons till it too exploded.

Mid-way through the battle the Osprey realized the futility of the fight and looked about to flee and bring warning of the disaster to the PCG's forces, since the comm towers of the starbase had been knocked out almost immediately after the CRS appeared in the sector, too soon to scramble a message for help. But the Osprey found itself surrounded, and so it flew straight into the teeth of the CRS, using it's superb agility to quickly weave through the enemy, using it's own ships to provide itself with cover against the rest of them. But it could not out-manoeuvre the two CRS-B frigates that locked onto it. Whilethe rest of the Frigates where busy burning holes in the star-base, these two realized that the Osprey was too nimble to be taken down by the slower battleships. They chased the Osprey down, and pounded it with their own weapons, even as the Osprey pounded them with it's own. Finally one of them managed to land a hit with a Predator missile, just as the Osprey burst through the cloud of enemy ships surrounding the star-base and warped away, unable to be pursued by CRS-B's, which could not keep up with it in faster-than light travel.

At another star-base, in orbit around a planet near the edge of the vast emptiness that Deep Space 57 used to patrol, the crippled Osprey warped in, fires burning on it's hull from the oxygen that leaked out of it, chunks of hull floating off of it like a comet trail, and one warp nacelle dangling at a weird angle. A message came through to the Starbase, warning it of the disaster that had just happened. In the background, the comm's officer could hear the screams and shouts of the crew as they desperately tried to hold off the marauding insects from the bridge while they made their last ditch effort to warn the rest of the Federation about what had happened. Just as the comm's officer on board the Osprey had finished detailing the battle, number of Cor Redor ships, and the state of the star-base, the insects burst through the last defensive lines of the brave crew of the Osprey, while the officers on board the Star-base could do nothing to help the ship in it's death throes. But before the fight was even finished, a massive explosion rippled through the Osprey as a quantum torpedo that had been about to fire before it's gunners were killed went off, triggering a massive explosion that finished the crippled starship.

*The Cor Redor use a different type of propulsion than ever previously encountered by the Federation or PCG. that's why they were undetectable. It’d be like a race that didn't know anything about warp trying to detect a ship in transwarp.

A brief synopsis of the events via LZP:

A fleet of nearly 300 ships from Commander Dino, Miles (Gandalf), Tybalt (AA), Johnnyred, and King Arem (Aokpisz). Johnnyred took a brief tour of the Octagerian Empire (disguised as such but really the Blacktron Empire). The Ringneck (Em) flew reconnaissance and it, along with some Oct. ships discovered around 600 ships sitting at star-base 58, which was behind starbase 57 (towards the Cor Redor). Small groups led by Tybalt and a senior captain of Avatar fleet, Hugh Eckhart, where patrolling DS 54, 55, and 56, which where in front of DS 57 (towards the PCG territory). The Light Myst was hit by a predator missile and after an intense fight manage to suck all the bugs out of the ship with a vacuum, after they did heavy damage to decks 23-27. Marines from the Ringneck also participated in the fire-fight and lost 5 of their numbers.

GM POST

(continued from the last few actions on LZP)

The Marines from the Texas and the Ringneck return to their respective ships from the Light Myst, which is in a random empty area of space near Deep Space 58 after making an emergency warp. During the sweep of the ship Commander Chet Williams collects several specimens of the three foot long insects for analysis, but due to the fire-fight, vacuum, and cleansing rays there are no perfect specimens. Meanwhile the Attack Force comprised of ships from the Texas Rangers, Iron Fleet, Green Division, and the Octegerian Empire wait at their positions, while Avatar Fleet drops out of warp at Deep Space 58, where the 600 Cor Redor ships wait. However, Avatar Fleet drops out of range of the Cor Redor and are not attacked immediately upon dropping out of warp. The Cor Redor slowly begin to advance towards Avatar Fleet.

*Tybalt Anderson all his ships to drop out of warp behind the Cor Redor Fleet in Deep Space 58, and attempt to time it with when Avatar Fleet comes in range. He leaves behind his three Saugeye kill teams, one at Deep Space 54, one at 55, and one at 56 to warn for any other Cor Redor attacks.*

Re: Cor Redor Chapter 1: Deep Space 57

Commander Jackson breathed out heavily, drumming his fingers on his chair, a nervous habit which he picked up years before.
"Lieutenant, status report on decks 23-27."
"Repair crews are working on repairing the damage sir, however, it will be about half an hour before the armor is repaired."
Jackson sighed, "Patch through to the rest of the fleet and tell them to watch out for large missiles..." He thought for a moment, and then gave further orders, "I want the fleet to warp over the Redor when the assault begins. Have them fly perpendicular to the Redor ships, I want the least surface area exposed to their missiles."
"As you wish sir."
"Also, patch me through to that Williams fellow."
After a button press or two, Jackson bellowed into his comm, "Get off my ship!"

Johnnyred glared at the massive fleet set before them. Their forces were outnumbered nearly 2 to 1.

"This is the Texas hailing the PCG Ringneck. Captain, form up with a squad of five Defiant classes and stay with them, attack as a group, go in close, scatter attack around your target in a swarm, and then regroup on the other side. Fox and Light Myst form up on the Texas' flanks, we're going in. PCG Argo Stay back with one of the shield ships and snipe with your Wave Shock Cannons. Be prepared to charge and fire the Wave Motion Gun on my mark. Avatar Fleet, you're free to engage at any time, Commander Bellator, I'm giving you complete control of Avatar, do your thing. All Angel class starships, stay back and provide support for the Argo"

Jackson's voice flickered through the sub-space channel the Texas was using.
"Affirmative. The Myst and the Fox are on their way."
Seconds later, both ships pull onto either side of the Texas.
Jackson turns to his bridge, "Divert more power to the shields."
Through the comm, Jackson tells the rest of the Octegerian fleet to prepare for battle.

{OOC: I'm not even sure if thats realistic. Anyway... I was going to do the specs but I've been busy, and I have no place to put them as Ant says that the council has temporarily denied new factions, so I have no sub-forum. Re: Cor Redor Chapter 1: Deep Space 57

OOC: @Johnnyred: He posted them on LZP if you want some more information about them.

GM POST
*The Frigates protecting the Battle ships set up where they can fire while still providing a clear line of fire for the battle ships, which turn side-ways to broadside the incoming fleet. (They're triangular/circle shaped when looking at them head on, and long.) The Glinglay turrets fire, adjusting their aim and beginning to wear on the shields of the ships bull-rushing into the enemy fleet. They where outnumbered almost 4 to 1, with Green Division and Iron Fleet not yet at Deep Space 58. As the allied fleet (PCG and it' allies) approached, the Cor Redor fleet began receding, slowly increasing their speed.

     Eventually the PCG fleet came in range of the Cor Redor's Shatter Turrets, which began to harm the shields of the attacking fleet with alarming rapidity, but that also mean the PCG where in range, which began immediately to fire their phasers and torpedoes, as well as other weapons they where equipped with. The Cor Redor ships began taking damage, but the smaller ships began to rotate around behind the larger ships to have time to recharge their shields as whenever they dropped too low, while the Battleships simply bore the fire directed at them. As the PCG had noticed with their earlier encounters with the Cor Redor, weapons fire often was not absorbed by the shields, but directed around the ship by the shield. Even so, several scout ships and some frigates fell, while the PCG's ships began to burn, and several weaker ones lost their shielding and blew up or flew behind the larger ones themselves and began to request permission to leave and recharge their shields.*

     Meanwhile dozens of Predator Missiles where launched straight at the allied fleet. Frigates and Scout ships not assigned to the Battleships began breaking off in groups and flying wide around, above, and below the allied fleet.*

Re: Cor Redor Chapter 1: Deep Space 57

"Argo, this is the Texas, now would be an excellent time to start using those Wave-Shock Cannons! Fire on their left flank! All Defiant and Rhode Island squads work over their right flank! All Texas class starships, split off, launch your fighters, pick a ship and attack individually with your squadrons providing back up. Andromedas, Galaxies, and Sovereigns stay back with the Omega shield ships and bombard the fleet! Light Myst and Fox We're going in on the right flank! Keep a look out for some sort of command ship, if you spot one let me know, I want to send a boarding party aboard it to find some answers!"

{OOC} JSYK Omega Class Shield ships are starships that are primarily used as a massive deflector dish. It's installed with the same kind of deflector that the massive Argo class herself has, this deflector has a high regeneration rate and a very small bleedthrough rate, not much should get through this. The Wave-Shock cannons are high power tachyon energy particle turrets that work on a similar basis to the Wave Motion Gun. They are as powerful as the Wave Motion Gun (it's a planet buster basically) but it's meant for pinpoint shots (they won't actually destroy a planet. They're meant for long distance sniping or orbital shots on enemy compounds. They could however, wipe out a something around the size of New York if put at maximum output, however, that would overheat the weapons and likely destroy them after the shot.) The Wave-Shock Cannons typically fire two at a time letting another two recharge and then fire so that a constant rate of fire may be maintained. The Wave Motion Gun itself can fire up to six blasts itself or one massive one.{End OOC}

Re: Cor Redor Chapter 1: Deep Space 57

on Thu Jun 06, 2013 9:59 am
King Arem/Jackson turned to the comms: "Affirmative. Fox, follow the Texas as we attack on the right flank."
Turning to the communications device meant for his own fleet, he gave the order to attack.

Octegerian ships shot out of warp above the Cor Redor, facing in what would be down if this was taking place on earth. Completely perpendicular to the Redor ships, they flew through the fleet, firing at the ships, which were mostly turned towards the PCG fleet. Notably, several Hands appeared to be missing from the melee. After razing the Redor(probably sustaining damage), they warped out from under the ships, completely disappearing from the battlefield.

King Arem smiled and addressed the Sub-Commander in charge of the attacking fleet. "Get ready for another pass, and send me a status report of your damage. Also, Hands, get ready to initiate your bombing runs."

Meanwhile, the Fox and the Light Myst fired at the incoming predator missiles, attempting to destroy them before impact.

OOC: Yes, but atleast you're both focused on the common enemy. And yes, I wish Gandalf, Dino, and Ant would be here more to control their fleets, as well as others to add theirs. Razz

GM POST

The Fleet continued it's plunge into the Cor Redor forces and losses began to mount up on both sides. The Argo angled itself to where it could fire above the PCG fleet and under the Octegerian ships and began sniping the Cor Redor fleet, mostly the anti-starfighter towers on the Battleships, whose shields' began to crumble under the awesome power of the cannons. Forward of the Argo but still hanging back the Galaxies, Soveriegns, and Andromeda class ships hung within the safety of the Omega class shield ships and continued to bombard the enemy fleet. The Defiant and Rhode Island class ships broke off left as ordered and began mauling the fleet on it's right flank (the PCG's left), dealing heavy damage to the smaller ships but where out-matched by the combination of Battleships and Frigates, and the Scout craft which began following the light fast ships move for move and firing upong them. The number of ships destroyed began to grow alarmingly fast. The Texas ships split up and began to assault enemy frigates, but other frigates began to swarm around them and even with their fighters they where grosely outmatched, and their shields began to wane rapidly even as they each heavily damaged thier target frigate.

Avatar fleet barreled right now the center, with the ships popping in and out amongst each other for cover, plowing straight through the chaos. The weapons fire from both sides bgan to flow thick and fast, and friendly fire began to become a problem for both sides. The majority of the Battleships and their escorts began to converge to stop the penatration of Avatar fleet, focusing their fire on the smaller ships.

The Cor Redor where stunned by the sudden appearance of the nimble Hand class Octegerian ships that appeared on top of them and dove through like darts, but they recovered in enough time to turn some of their attention to them. Few recieved significant damage, but two where destroyed and another ran head on into a Scout ship in the twisiting turning battle, completely destroying both, a testament to intensity and tightness of the battle.

Meanwhile the Cor Redor continued to retreat, making the shots less and less acurate and the Argo was forced to pursue them in order to stay in range. Their rapid retreat forced Green Division to begin backing up to avoid being over-run, though the the rear ships of the Cor Redor began to fire upon them. The frigates and scout craft abandoned their previous course and all dove in, severing the Texas Rangers attacking the flanks, the two Octegerain ships, and Avatar fleet from the larger Texas Rangers ships sitting outside the main field of battle firing into it. The ships in the middle of the battle where now completely surrounded by the Cor Redor. The Predator missiles that streaked out from it however arched high above the Argo and Omega class shield ships and past them, spreading out as they did so.

And through it all Johnnyred's Texas and the Fox and Light Myst ships covering it's flank flew gloriously through the battle. Their ships where all beginning to take heavy damage but their pilot's expert skills allowed them to avoid the worst of the weapons fire, or they surely would have already been destroyed already by the constant poounding of the large and powerful Glinglay slugs, the rapid shield crushing Shatter turrets, and the constant pounding of the energy launchers. Even so, they had flown into the thickest part of the battle, with their other ships too far away to help, and they where running out of time.

On board one of the battleships, no different looking than the others, nor specially placed, the Cor Redor commander smiled gimly, in his ugly lizard/bug smile. This is what he needed, a fast victory of comeplete anihilgation of the enemy attack force. At this rate he was sure he would get it, which would surely get him the promotion, with enough of a salary to pay his parent's debt, and enough preteige to get the collectors off his back. The victory was worth it to him, it was worth it to his comrades, and it was necessary to his superiors. But the losses on either side of the battle where even so far, and victory should be by superior power, not superior numbers. He couldn't stand to win by losing the same, and having more to throw at the enemy. Thus he smiled, but with pain. "Open stealthed communications with command, tell them that Segment 2 is completed, Segment 3 is almost certaintly gaurenteed, but our losses are mounting quickly."

OOC: Phew! That took me the better part of two hours or more to write! Theres so much to keep track of and plan.

King Arem/Jackson grimaced as his bridge members alerted him of their's, and the Fox's decaying shields.

"Texas, their plan seems to have been to cut us off from the rest of the ships... we are completely isolated. I can have my Hand ships cancel their bombing runs and warp to us, but with the lack of room to emerge, the results could prove disastrous. We have two choices, we can fight, or run, and neither of my ships are in condition to fight much longer."

{OOC}The Argo is so massive and the Wave-Shock Cannons are so powerful that they should be doing a lot more than just disabling the anti-starfighter towers. Razz And they would have to retreat several hundred mega-meters to get out of range of the targeting instruments of the Wave-Shock cannons. {End OOC}

"This is Captain Johnnyred to all Rangers! All Texas, Defiant, and Rhode Island class ships pull back towards the Argo. Galaxy, Andromeda, and Sovereign classes maintain a distance of fifty mega-meters from the enemy fleet. Argo, switch up your firing patterns, port Wave-Shock Cannons fire at their left flank, starboard Wave-Shock Cannons fire at their right flank, center Wave-Shock Cannon maintain your charge as a back up, and keep the Wave Motion Gun at the ready at all times. Maintain a distance of one-hundred mega-meters from the fleet.

Light Myst and Fox and signs of some sort of command ship?"

*Geen Division retreats, attempting to stay on the fringes of the Cor Redor's range, while firing everything they've got.*

{OOC} One other thing, you have to realize that all the current ships that the PCG has were developed to fight the Spectre, the most powerful enemy that the PCG or Starfleet had ever faced. While the Cor Redor are a formidable enemy, I don't think that they're more powerful than the Spectre were.{End OOC}

OOC: Yes I know that, I followed Star-Hunter's Operation Omega and draw lots of inspiration from it, but the Cor Redor are not necesasrily less powerful, just very different. Different technology, different organization, different tactics, and far different numbers, and the PCG can't just plow through those numbers either. Wink Remember, this is a story/RPG, and it wouldn't be worth anything if you could simply trample all over the Cor Redor.

{OOC}However, the Cor Redor ships seem very small and small should typically mean less powerful, it's just weird to have something smaller than a Galaxy that's more powerful than an Andromeda. {End OOC}
