I believe I already expressed my love for this design on the chat, I shall do so again.

It's absolutely beautiful!

I LOVE this chassis! ALL of the designs look incredibly good. You were already very good at this when I first saw your work, but you have improved even beyond excellence.

WELL done.

Not really sure what the plow tank is supposed to be, but I love the chassis design and all of the variants! I especially love the AA gun, with it's quad barrels and large radar dish, very very cool looking. And oooo, artillery! Very nice.

Can I have one in tiger stripe camo?

There are two Self-Propelled Air Defense vehicles, the quad- (which I'm putting into my TO&E) and the twin-cannon one. I'm gonna put those cannons on a Mech, I think. Razz

Yes, very nice self-propelled cannon design. I really like how the cannon turned out on this guy, enough that I modified the original CM-16. (Someone remind me to change the photos. Razz)

Tiger stripes? I think I can work that out. Which one?

So the plow tank's an AA vehicle? Tiger stripe camo...I'ld like a battallion sized element's worth of all of them! Razz

Specifically the AA gun and the tank. Razz *Offers you republic credits*

No, the "plowtank" is a CEV, like I told Talmid. And I don't take Pub currency. I'll trade you, though. Razz I'll be sure to get you an armor battalion of the MBT and an art'y battalion of the quad-cannon SPAD. Razz

Pretty Rangers are pretty. Razz I'd probably divide my armoured forces between these and Nexus; the versatility is awesome. Like Ant said, the radar on the AA vehicle is a cool touch. Great job!

Ahhh, okay, I missed that. Your CEV is missing something though:
Spoiler:
Uhhh....trades....uhhh.....I'm not sure I have a whole lot of comparable items to trade. Razz Maybe some Peregrine's? Or Z-9 Rats?

That's really the only thing I have to trade, unless kojan lets me trade some YPI Interceptors, I'm not sure about how he feels about his faction trading to the MSI though.

Which is also part of why I'm non trading any PPT stuff. Razz

Or we can talk starships, or I can dig through my stuff to see if I have any PCG type stuff that I haven't put up yet. Razz

Very nice! The chassis is great, but those modular turrets are awesome. They're all different, but they all fit the look really well. Nicely done!

The quads? Ehh I suppose the Grelfucans could be persuaded to...donate some export-spec models to further the laughable R&D of the PCG in the realm of ground warfare. Razz

Star-Hunter wrote:Probably one of the best tanks anyone in this little group's ever built. The swap-able turrets make for some very appealing variation, especially since most of them are very nicely built. I'm especially fond of the "siege-mode" setup.

Siege mode setup? But thank you, S-H, that means a lot coming from you, and even more so because I can honestly say that not a single aspect of these designs were based off of something Arik originally made. These are all me, all my work (while staring at photos online Razz).

Lord General Spud wrote:Very nice! The chassis is great, but those modular turrets are awesome. They're all different, but they all fit the look really well. Nicely done!

Thank you as well, Spud. I did take all of that into consideration, and it's part of why the artillery Recons aren't ones I like all that much - the turrets didn't/don't "fit" the chassis. These very much do. Smile

My point exactly. You guys need some ground forces, otherwise all anybody has to do is get past your fleet and land - planet taken.

@Jace: 1. Get past the fleet. As I already stated, the PCG are ship guys, with the mostpowerful fleet(s) around.
2. Upon getting past the fleet and making it landside, all the fleet has to do is face the planet and open fire. Orbital bombarment works well.

We don't, we follow a higher ethics code, like helping others who are dying but haven't achieved warp-tech yet. Razz

But seriously, the problem with large scale (not talking spec-ops or the like here) ground combat in a world with pinpoint accurate, coffee-cup-heating to planet-surface-vaporizing variable setting mobile space weapons is that any sizable ground formation, lacking stealth tech, sentient shields, or some form of energy shielding, would be blown to bits if even a single frigate was in space unopposed and undamaged above the planet were said ground combat was taking place.

That said, we dwell in a world of science FICTION in which the laws of science and logic need-not always apply. Razz
And the PCG absolutely does need to bring a LOT more and better ground weapons into the game. Until such time as we can get some ground toys as cool as yours, bask in the glory of your awesome tank designs, Jace. Razz

Have I not mentioned that all Grelfucan ground forces designs come with integral shields, as well as external shields, and that when in sufficient proximity combine power with shields of similar design/specs to provide superior protection for a unit? Among other things I won't mention ambiguously? Razz

But yeah, topic, guys. We veer off too often.

Re: ACV-34 Ranger Chassis and Vehicles

on Tue Mar 17, 2015 7:52 pm
I don't believe you mentioned that... okay, that could change things.... wait... if they're THAT heavily shielded... how are the anti-ship weapons of a 100-3,000 meter ship going to be unable to cut through the tank formation's shielding, while a PCG tank(/formation) can penetrate? scratch Or can a tank get through? I don't mean to be off topic with the above, I seriously wonder how your tech works here, and if I need to add "decent tank so the MSI doesn't laugh us off the field with Jace's/Arik's great tank designs" to my "to build" list.

And, sorry; we're just such a talkative bunch that we end up talking about things other than your work when we become inspired by your designs and tech. That and some of us just like to hear ourselves type.  Embarassed Sorry.

Mod announcement (short version) back on topic everyone!
Spoiler:

Long version.

(Tour guide/mod speaking)

"Okay, let's all try to stay together now.
Now you will see the excellent, highly adaptable, modular tank chassis of famed weapons designer and warrior, Jace.
Please save all unrelated conversation and questions until after the tour is over, as Jace has been known to use his weapons designs on tourists who use his weapons manufacturing facilities for conversations not related to the items produced here.
Any questions? No AA, you cannot put more missiles on whatever you're building, yes Mighty, you should put more missiles on what you're building.
There, any more questions... actually about the tanks? Good, I refer you to Jace.
What's that? I have just been informed by security that I am going to be forcibly removed from the building for 'hijacking the topic.'"

Re: ACV-34 Ranger Chassis and Vehicles

No, it's active shielding, read: "Oh, crap, there's still an enemy ship that probably wants to blast us. Pop the active shields, sit and wait for him to blow up thanks to our squiddy friends and then move on." Mainly because the anti-OB (orbital bombardment) shields take up enough power that any other operations other than mechanical ones would totally drain the outputted power of all the units' cells.

Note that I said output, not actual power. The energy generated by the power cells in vehicles is actually much more than they would need on an average operation, allowing them to continue operations for extremely extended periods of time if need by by storing said energy. However if all of the available energy were part of the output, well...tanks would turn into nuke-level kamikazes. Razz

Granted I will admit that this is kinda on-the-fly as I'm still working on assimilating HH tech into my designs, and it's a navy-centric universe (so disappointing that nearly all large-scale non-videogame science fiction universe are almost purely navy-based with little to no mention of trigger-pulling troops, and that any mention is wholly insufficient to do anything with for fanon) so I'm only spitballing what I can do with ground forces. Point being that in actual combat they only have passive shields that are sufficient protection to get to a better position but would not stop something specifically designed to take it out. E.G. a soldier's armor's shields would stop infantry-level energy weapons, but "squad support" or anti-infantry armor-piercing "rounds" would blow through the shields, and render the soldier mission-killed if not outright dead, depending on a variety of things.

THIS IS SOMETHING TO ACTUALLY READ:

I do ask that everyone understand something: I'm still in my senior year of high school, and as part of my city's advanced program (International Baccalaureate, specifically) I leave the house at 0545-0550 and don't get home until like 1600-ish on a normal day. So that, on top of HW/projects to finish my senior year of high school, and my last year of IB, and leading the robotics club has not allowed for any in-depth analysis, overhaul, and reanalysis of my military technologies. Adding onto that is the fact that I'm now a member of the official Honorverse fan association and the way they operate is no joke.

What I'm saying is that building basic models is much simpler than determining all of the stuff that goes into it and every other design in the GT armed forces, especially considering the fact that I'm always evolving said armed forces, specifically the navy, and right now I have the bear of the challenge of skipping preliminary analysis of my current-gen navy and overhauling it to better suit the Honorverse tech I want to include now that I kinda-sorta can. That leaves even less of the nonexistent time I have to go into detail about my ground forces, especially in regards to OB, simply because on the LMBs that had been outlawed and was never a major concern for me. That and even here I'm sure there would be some kind of convention almost galaxy-wide agreeing that such actions would be so totally immoral/unethical that whoever did it would earn the ultimate destiny of their own extinction anyway. So adding that into the mix, among a few tech developments that the Honorverse provides as well as things I had been spinning up make things too complex to do until after I graduate.

TL;DR? Don't pay attention to any tech stuff I say at the moment, it's all on-the-spot babble 'cause I no haz time to do what I want to provide a conclusive press release for public consumption in addition to a domestic, secured, fully-detailed brief on the capabilities of the Grelfucan armed forces.

Hey, man, it's OK; we're all going or have gone through school, so I'm pretty sure we can all relate. It's not like we're doing anything time-sensitive, so if you need to take some time off to focus on other stuff IRL, that's perfectly fine. Smile
