Pegasus Class Starship

~ Start Entry ~
The Pegasus class, a pursuit/interceptor/destroyer in the Star-Confederation Police Force. The ship is equipped with three powerful engines that are more than capable of FTL speeds. There are not as many weapons on a Star-Con ship as there are on a typical PCG or Federation ship, however, their weapons are more powerful than the average PCG or Federation ship of similar size.
As a police cruiser, it is equipped with a heavy-duty tractor beam that is capable of holding many smaller ships while still at full warp. The Pegasus has a smaller than average crew due to its large power generators that take up a large portion of the main body. The two engines on the fins have their own power generators that are separate from the main portion of the ship. They can be accessed through maintenance passages within the wings. If necessary, the engine pods can be detached and the ship can run fine with just the single engine on the main body.
The Pegasus is equipped with a special weapon designed for blasting through heavy hull plating. This weapon stays within its slot in the hull unless needed. Typically, the weapon is not used unless there is no intent to capture their quarry. The weapon has a massive amount of drain on the power generators and unless the need is dire, it is typically not used at the same time as the other weapons systems.
This ship was spawned by a conversation amongst Dino, Mighty, and myself. We challenged each other to build a Police cruiser and a support craft for said cruiser for the Pirate RPG. We agreed upon a maximum size of 70 studs in length, and we also challenged each other individually with a certain design pattern to follow. My challenge came from Mighty who challenged me to build an angular, cylinder with metallic coloration.

Danke!
Actually, I think that the reason it's not flush are because of the rear hull cannons on the ship. As for the fin, personally I think it adds a nice aesthetic... and it needed something back there, not sure what else I would've put there.
My main draws for inspiration for this were starships from two different sci-fi cartoons with retro-space feel.
Duck Dodgers' starship from the show of the same name.
And the Star Cruisers from The Adventures of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

I believe I've shared my thoughts with you on these ships before, but I'll say it again just to be safe: I really like the retro-rocket-meets-space-battleship aesthetic. The lines are all clean, sharp, and give the ship a very aggressive feel- good in an interceptor.
My one gripe would probably be the large engines pods; they just don't look right, mounted on the comparatively flimsy wings like that. (I suppose this is how our SW-inspired members feel about warp nacelles )

Glad you like it. Personally, I like the oversized engine pods, although that's primarily from an aesthetic standpoint. Also, you're right. It's basically the same thing as the warp nacelles on a starship. Just... a little bigger and not as long. When I build starships, I don't build for realism or build what physically would work. I build what looks good and looks awesome. Isn't that the way MOST sci-fi tv series/movies are? It's more fun to build that way.

Verily, I believe that I too have already sung songs of my love for this impressive vessel!
But I shall do so once again, for in truth, this ship deserves a great deal of praise.
I adore this craft's hot-rodded-retro-warship design! It speaks of glorious battles gone-by!
Unlike the Hunter of Stars, I find the aft dorsal fin to be most enjoyable; although I must agree with the Shape that Speaks that, in truth, the support-wings holding on this iron-beast's great engines would do well to be doubled in thickness.
Again I say, most well done my lord!

I almost needed to use google translate on that post, Dino.
High praise, my friend. I too find the dorsal fin pleasant to the eyes. With the wings, maybe they're to thin, personally I don't think so, but I do think that if I doubled the thickness it would be too thick. HOWEVER. I could attempt to use plates on each side, it could probably thicken it up nicely without it being too thick.

Actually, I'd personally go with some kind of support struts to better connect the engine pods to the hull, or maybe even a second wing for each somehow. And even then, I actually kinda like them. Especially in the second to last picture. Great ship overall.

@ Arik - Meh... I'm picturing the struts in my mind (I think) and I really don't like the look of them... I could try it, but I think using the plates would be best, personally, I think it looks fine the way it is. The second wing might not look bad, maybe I'll use it on a larger ship with the same design feel. I'm planning on making several new factions to serve as NPCs. We've got the Space Agency, but really they're the police force of the Federation more than anything else, these are actually going to be completely different races.
