XCV-110 Series Empty XCV-110 Series

Mon Jun 29, 2015 10:25 pm
A couple of WIP/progress/I'm still tinkering with it as it is shots. Messed with the actual chassis (I'm much happier with it now) and then just mounted a couple of turrets from earlier designs onto the XCV-110 chassis - the ground clearance on this thing is ridiculous! The deck of this design is two full studs above the ground...maybe I can fit some V-hull type stuff under there... And, apparently, the turrets not turning on some of my models is because of the models themselves, not LDD. Meaning I gotta go figure out how to fix them (assuming I work up the necessary amount of caring about it Razz).

Anyway, here are the images I've got so far.
XCV-110:

Yes, I'm aware there's a lot of studs and that these are pretty threadbare - I didn't add anything because these were just to get the scaling idea for turrets I can/might make, and to see how these look themselves - I still need an SPG, and if I can get a couple of lines of vehicles with a variety of common parts rather than a couple of lines of vehicles and then a few with custom/individual/non-compatible parts that'd be better logistically. Not sure how realistic that goal is, but I guess we'll see, hm? Honestly with some more work I think these actually look pretty good. Even if they still carry six troops in there without much/any need. Razz

EDIT:
Decided to see if I could make the model shorter without reworking the whole thing - was actually pretty simple. Didn't do anything beyond that, but I wanted to gauge people's opinions about it before I moved forward on it:
XCV-111.2 Tank:

Also, to further that effort, I modified a couple of designs and made a new one after looking at the FCS MGV series from the US:
XCV-101 and XCV-106 "Tanks":

Mostly these are just for "the lols" but if they grow enough on me I may actually use one or both of them as legitimate tank designs (with needed modifications in armor/protection levels) but honestly the practicality of such a small vehicle with a 120mm gun...I don't know. I might mount the 90mm instead, haven't decided. But at least they look pretty cool. I like the XCV-106 better though since that turret came directly from the AV(T)-24 Blazer LT. But if I went with the 90mm gun (pictured below) I'd need another design with the 120mm anyway.

AV(T)-24 Blazer Light Tank:

We'll see I suppose. I want to knock out all of the vehicles before I start on the new TO/E for the Marines and/or Army. Which is - obviously - going to take awhile, because rather than adapt as I make new designs, I want to make all of the designs and then remake the TO/E. Razz

...I just realized all of the vehicles I'm making right now are gonna need names. *sounds of frustrated exhaustion.*

It needs detailing, but the XCV-110 looks like it could soon be utterly gorgeous. The shaping is awesome, ARC. Very Happy

Yeah, even with the extra height I'm starting to really like it. Still might tinker with the XCV-111.2 idea.

Well, potential is the idea, Dino. Razz

Any ideas/suggestions/desires you guys have for the direction this may go? I'm kind of hitting a bit of a block right now.

Honestly, I don't think reducing the height is necessary- but you'd know more about that than I do. I do prefer how the higher one looks, if that factors in.

I haven't really been keeping track of what you're keeping and what you're retiring; if you're getting rid of your earlier designs, or have some roles that still need filling, then this would be a good one to keep- otherwise, the additional design probably isn't necessary (yeah, helpful, I know Razz). Not sure how well it would serve as an SPG- but again, this isn't really my area, so I'm not really one to ask.

The SPG casemate was really just a scaling effort, in all honesty. I just really need a good SPG design. Razz

No, this is more likely to be a scout/sensor vehicle, MLRS, another kind of combat engineering vehicle, command and control, ambulance, IFV for special forces...that sort of thing. I may make the tank design(s) on the XCV-100 and/or XCV-110 platforms if the TO/E makes it necessary. *sighs* I swear I need my own assistant to keep track of all of these things...

Bigger gun, wider/longer turret. Make it the nastiest MBT anyone has ever seen, but keep it clean, smooth lines, orderly appearance (like your usual work) but a big brawler of a tank.

Uh...this isn't meant to be an MBT. It's more like the CVR(T) program from Britain and the (shockingly) cancelled Future Combat Systems MGV program here in the US. Scouts, IFVs, medical vehicles, armor recovery vehicles, C2Vs, etc.

The body of the XCV-110 seems pretty massive compared to the CRV(T). But then again, trying to fit 'figs inside... understood.

Well then... hmmm.... No idea... Now the smaller turrets make sense. Razz

I tried with the XCV-100 series but discovered that several designs could not be done due to minifigures... So the XCV-100 and XCV-110 are meant to cover all of the roles the CRV(T) did/does. Razz And then I looked at the FCS MGV program and figured "Hey, why not?" and then worked that into the XCV-100/110 stuff as well. Still need the NLOS-C/SPG, and I'm not sure about the NLOS-M/mobile mortar...

BUT, PROGRESS PHOTOS:
XCV-111 IFV:
This one is actually more closely based off of the M2/M3 Bradley IFVs, armed with a 25mm or 30mm (I haven't decided which one yet) auto-cannon with a co-axial 7.62mm MG, along with two ATGM tubes and a four-barrel grenade launcher system, the XCV-111, or "Triple Ace" carries ten troops into combat. Compared to the CV-79 Raider SCV, it looks better, is smaller, and while is less capable it also seems more practical. It's more likely to replace the Raider SCV than the Stalwart (meaning I'm still gonna use it at the primary groundside troop-mover, and eventually I'm gonna get an aerial platoon-level transport model...already have the design for it...) given the capacity differences, but the fact that I can't cram a whole Squad in there is a bit annoying. Although, I figure one of these with a (pair of) CV-37 Legion MUV(s) would be more combat-capable than a single Raider SCV, and four would be better than two Stalwarts or three Raider SCVs. Not to mention it doesn't necessarily have to be for combat troops - food services, engineer, and logistics units could use these as transports along with the Stalwart, and have no fear of being un(der)protected.
(It also kind of looks like a Cromwell, if the main body of the vehicle were removed. Razz)

XCV-112 MV:
I have to admit, I'm surprised it took me as long as it did to make a dedicated "ambulance," even though the Raider SCV and Stalwart could fit the function. However, the XCV-112 Medical Vehicle is meant to treat combat casualties immediately, and under fire. With two corpsmen on-station the MV is capable of servicing two severe trauma casualties that would require immediate services and up to four minor casualties that would be safer away from the fight while being treated than in the fight. I'm still debating sticking at least an RC MG on this thing, since I actually have room for a second station in the front of the cabin.

M-113 C2V:
Yeah, I find it a bit ironic that this has the same number (113) as the M-113, which is a total coincidence. However, the C2V, or Command and Control Vehicle is meant for Company- and Battalion-level use, allowing officers to coordinate and relay information to and from four combat units, as well as ground artillery and air support units while still being in the field (this one may need a gun of some sort as well). The large transparent blue panels are meant to be map projectors, upon which the three men at the keyboards can add, move, and alter unit icons as well as positioning fire-support request targets for use by art'y men and zoomies alike.
The impressive sensor and communications arrays also allow the C2V to gather its own data that lower-level units' vehicles may not be able to pick up or decipher, and as such at least one intelligence specialist (they don't have unique color uniforms so nobody knows they're a spook, totally not because I'm lazy Razz) is aboard an XCV-113 at all times. Regiment, Division, and Corps-level C2 operations are executed aboard Deferat shuttles, dedicated bunkers within a base, or aboard the orbiting capital ship from which the ground forces deployed.

As a side note, I have to say I really like how the little angled bricks worked out on the C2V. I won't say it's a universally-good-looking design, but it really seemed to fit for this one. Why did I use these instead of my usual ERA? Two reasons: A) I was getting a bit tired of the same ERA design with various additional protection systems, and B) if this thing is getting shot at by something that would require ERA and/or more to protect it, then quite frankly they probably wouldn't survive anyway.

Ok, first of all, I love the Blazer tank. Razz All the basic tank chassis look great.

Now to the XCV-111 pics: I really like the IFV. Autocannon looks good.

The MV is very well done although I agree that an MG would be good if only for self-defense.

And finally the C2V is my favorite. VERY well done with all the comm/sensor equipment and the interior especially. Not sure about the cheese pieces, but I really like the look of it. The comm arrays all work very well together. Very Happy

Yeah, I'm really happy with how that turned out. I may just use this, with some modifications, for the scout version as well.

I happen to love the Blazer myself, so thank you for your approval. Razz

The autocannon was actually kind of fun to do if only for the looks of it - I've got it on the XCV-10...3 I think, on mobile so I can't check (getting this multiquote was a nightmare).

But yeah I'm gonna stick an RC MG turret up there for sure, if only to break up the flat top of this thing.

Well, originally, the "cheese" pieces didn't have the rounded vertices, and I needed to put something sloped there, and that's what fit. Unfortunately any angled brick that isn't a full brick/three plates tall isn't going to have vertices that aren't rounded, so...*shrugs*

Up next: dedicated scout, MLRS?, NLOS-C/SPG?

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I know double-posting is evil, but I want people to get the notification so they look at this.

So, an update on the XCV-112 MV:
XCV-112 MV:
I added a ROWS, or Remotely Operated Weapons System to the thing (although I don't recall if I actually added in that second station for it or not... Razz)

And, I liked it so much I added it to the GT-37 Legion, but I also decided to make a Mk. II version that was better for the weapons support units so it could carry ammo for the mortars, howitzers, and missile tubes. Razz

Cool! I like the gun on the 112, very well done.

The MUV (or as I like to say, Movie Razz) is really well done. I like the details and the rear trunk. MG-50 looks great as well. Very Happy
