Hmmm... this looks really, really similar to a ship I've seen before, but I can't place it. Razz

Anyway, on to the ship itself: While you haven't quite outdone yourself yet again, that has more to do with how amazing the Gryphon was than anything bad about this ship. Razz It's yet another S-H amazing, and it shows. The sparseness of detail --especially for a "weaponship"-- is probably the closest thing I can muster to a negative comment- but the result is so sleek, I can hardly complain. Great work once again. Razz

This is gorgeous. Razz Finally something nice and colorful from you, too! Razz And honestly the detailing is superb.

My one complaint is that dark gray thing sticking out the bottom. It seems out of place, honestly.

Why do you have to be so good at making starships? Why can't you make something dull and boxy for a change? Razz

No seriously though, EPIC ship. Love the design...totally in love with the design. Looks similar to some of Kojan's work, but with it's own S-H spin to it.

Well done again!

I just have to parrot Scare here, why do you have to be so good? My stuff just seems really bad compared to yours. Razz

EDIT: I'm going to have to start downloading all your ships and picking them apart for SNOT ideas.

Go ahead - just be aware that I have a tendency to ignore connectivity issues in favor of finishing the model faster. That's not to say the connectivity issues couldn't be resolved - but since none of these ships will ever be physically built, I find it better to save time by simply rigging everything into place.

Well, that's a sensible way to look at it. Razz There's also the added benefit: If LEGO's robots at Denmark, Mexico, Hungary, and the Czech Republic ever decide to take over the world and try printing out your ships, they will fall apart. Razz

Despite the fact that this is not your most ornate, or insane ship, I think this may perhaps be my favorite, quite possible because of the above reasons. The colors flow quite well together, and though it appears to be a simple build, I can definately see more intricate techniques used in the construction of the main hull.

The engine area especially looks fantastic, and those little wing things combined with the overall shape of the ship are the exact look that I attempted (but failed at) capturing in the Longsword Class Carrier.

The detailing you captured with the cheese slopes is great, not entirely sure how you did some of it, but rest assured, I will dissect this ship, discover you method, and steal use it while giving full credit to the original creator.

Wow....

Ok...

That looks awesome. Razz

I have TWO questions.

A. Would it be possible to build this one out of real bricks?

B. What faction does this ship belong to?

@ S-H - I do believe the majority of the ships on this forum, with the exception of a few could actually be built out of real LEGO, given a redesign of their core. Most of the ships I would want to build would probably be too much work to completely redesign them... but perhaps I shall someday. I'd really like to try to build the Argo IRL (after I do a little redesigning on it... the rear section of my design of the Argo still needs work.

A magnetic core would be really amazing as well, and honestly, it could possibly be done providing you had a decently sized hollow section, and some bricks placed appropriately to hold the magnet in place.

Re: Typhon-class Weaponship

It really depends on the ship. Star Trek Federation styled ships tend to want to fall apart because they are inherently structurally weak at the neck, pylons, and nacelles.
The bigger the ship, the less stable it becomes. For example my tiny little Defiant class is absolutely as solid as a rock, and is not only swooshable, but actually throwable. Meanwhile, my Intrepid, Akira, Steamrunner, and Prometheus are all reasonably solid, save perhaps for the nacelles. On the other hand, my Galaxy class cannot support the weight of its own saucer section, even with multiple small supports in place.
I can only imagine that the Indomitable, if actually built as a physical model, would fall apart into multiple pieces at the neck, pylons, and maybe nacelles, and I attempt to build as solidly as I can, by guess-work, anyway.

On the other hand, a beefy, thick, bulky, solid ship of even greater size, with heavy supports throughout, might hold together quite well.

Anyways, I think the idea of using magnets to achieve a floating ship is just about the coolest one I've ever heard... if we ever manage to do a con as the PCG, we need to figure out how to do that.

I'd love to build a real life Talmidon, but the wing supports would be literal flops. Razz

TBH, this particular ship would probably be the best one to try that on. Razz

I was browsing the interwebz for Vaygr ships for a little inspiration for a Draugr design I'm working on, when I stumbled across this
Spoiler:
As soon as I saw it, I KNEW that I'd found something I'd seen before, I thought "Wait... isn't that S-H's awesome ship that I just commented on?" I can't find any information about it, but apparently, this excellent design is even more awesome than we thought, because it is such an excellent MOC of an existing design. Well done S-H!

I did a Google Image Reverse Search and it seems to be a mod ship for a game called Homeworld 2. It looks really great in LEGO. Surprised

Yeah, I've noticed that... ST paint job, but all Homeworld ships. Razz

To be fair, almost all Homeworld ships have a pretty awesome design to them, so I'm not terribly surprised it became so popular when everyone found out about it. Razz

Ooooh... That magnetic core idea sounds amazing! I can just imagine a big collection of Lego SHIPs mounted on display stands, and actually suspended in the air without anything to hold them up...

I'm gonna send a petition to LEGO to make a giant brick-compatible one, and to start using them on all their UCS models.

And then afterward during our PCG-cons we'll build a giant magnet table that all our models float on, and make the SHIPs remote-controlled, and have a giant SHIP space battle.
