RX-0 Gundam Paladin

on Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:32 pm
- Start Entry -

The Gundam Paladin, designated as RX-0 is the first Mobile Suit designed by the Phoenix Command Group, as well as the first Gundam type Mobile Suit.  Mobile Suits are highly maneuverable type mechs that are able to operate on land, in the air, undersea, and in space.  Gundam Paladin itself is highly mobile, especially thanks to it's verniers which allow it extra mobility.

The following information has been copied and pasted directly from the Gundam wiki so that you can better understand the various technologies from the Gundam multiverse.

- Vernier/Apogee Kick Motor
In addition to their main rocket engines, mobile suits and other spacecraft are also equipped with secondary rockets called vernier thrusters, derived from the "apogee kick motors" used to position artificial satellites into geosynchronous orbit around the Earth. These devices, distributed across the machine's outer surface, are used for changing direction and performing fine movements - or attitude control, in technical jargon. While early mobile suits use solid-fuel motors for maneuvering, later models often use liquid-fuel rockets for better performance.

- Gundanium Alloy
A super high-tensile alloy developed by Earth Federation Forces researchers at the asteroid base Luna II. Originally intended for use inside thermonuclear reactors, this alloy's superb strength, durability, heat resistance and radiation-absorbing properties make it an ideal material for mobile suit armor. However, the difficulty and expense of producing this alloy preclude its use in mass-produced mobile suits like the RGM-79 GM. After the One Year War, the material is renamed Gundarium in honor of the famous mobile suit.

- I-Field
When Minovsky particles are released into the air or into open space, the positive and negative particles spontaneously align themselves into a three-dimensional cubic lattice. Due to the repulsive and electrostatic forces between the Minovsky particles, this lattice functions as a kind of a force field, which is referred to as an I-field. This field has difficulty permeating conductive materials like metal, water, and plasma, and it exerts a repulsive force against mega particles. An I field is used to deflect enemy mega particle beams. Due to its high power requirements, the I-field generator originally could only be installed in large mobile weapons. When the generator is activated, the I-field forms an invisible barrier around the mobile weapon, protecting it from incoming beam attacks. However, this barrier has no effect against solid objects like missiles and projectiles, and beam weapons can still be used at point blank range within the barrier's boundary.

However, as the years went on, development into the I-field Generator would lead to interesting creations. The first of these are the Fin Funnel Barrier used by the RX-93 Nu Gundam and its deriatives. The Fin Funnel Barrier is a special force field that is powerful enough to not only stop beam weaponry, but also physical weaponry and is even able to trap units within it. Another is the X3 I-field, a special, miniaturized I-field Generator built into the hands of the XM-X3 Crossbone Gundam X-3 and later the XM-X1 Crossbone Gundam X-1 Kai Kai "Skull Heart". While the X3 I-field acted like a normal I-field, it also had the added bonus of being able to let the Gundam grab beam sabers with its hands without destroying them. However, it had the same weakness as all other I-field Generators - the generators tend to overheat and thus force cooldowns. Even if the unit used them generators one at a time, there was still a window of opportunity for others to utilize

So, let me explain to you about the first three .Lxfs.  The first one, the "Real Type" is Gundam Paladin if any part were availible in any color.  The same way that we normally build our stuff in LDD.  The second .Lxf "Physical Type" is based off of the actual physical model of the RX-0 that I built.  It's not 100% because LDD is missing some pieces and IRL pieces have a little more give than LDD pieces.  And the third model, "Future Type" is the RX-0 after I make a parts order for some parts that I don't have currently.

Well... I think we just won the ground war. Nice work J-red! While Mechs aren't really my thin, I appreciate them, and I enjoy seeing well made ones like this, but I never got into them myself. Still, this this is NIIIICE! It's good to see you building again! Any idea of the size of this thing? (Approximate height.) Again, nicely done.

S-H: Actually, maybe I'm just missing some, but I'm seeing very, very few studs. There's a handful on some of the roof tile slope bricks, and the triangular wing bricks on the skirt and shield, but that's not many and it's hard to cover those without losing accurate proportions.

Dino - Uh... Honestly, not sure what the size is, I didn't measure it at all, but it is in minifig scale, so if you open it up in LDD and stick a minifig next to it you'll get an idea of the scale.

S-H - Actually, what you're referring to as "early-generation Gundam designs" are actually the average aesthetic of the Universal Century Gundam designs.  This one specifically is based off of RX-0 Gundam Unicorn.

Spoiler:

Universal Century takes a more practical/militaristic view on Gundam and other MS design, whereas the other universes typically have a more fantastical design (Probably the most well known being the After Colony timeline AKA New Mobile Report Gundam Wing)

AS far as studs, for the most part, I think the exposed studs actually don't look too bad, I'm assuming you're talking about the "anti-studs" and I agree about that totally, but I don't have the parts to fix that, and it slipped my mind when I built it in LDD otherwise I would've put it in the "Real-Type" .Lxf.

Arik - Showoff.  Razz  That bears some resemblance to some Mobile Armors in Gundam, as well as some designs in Aldnoah.Zero and Metal Gear REX from MGS.

OH!!! I thought that this was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. Okay. Now I get it. And that sizing makes way more sense. Okay.

I think you might be thinking of my first attempt.... which was huge. XD Waaaaay too large to efficiently work with.

Didn't read the description, but the model is very nice! Seems a bit wide in the torso, but IDK. Very very nice overall. Great build!

@Arik: Oooh, interesting mech! Interesting eastern style with spatterings of western style in it.

I wish I could build an actual Humongous Mecha out of actual LEGO Pieces. But of-course I would need to buy some Exo-Force or possibly that one Ninjago set in order for me to build one. Razz
