Virgo Class Frigate Empty Virgo Class Frigate

Virgo Class Frigate Virgo_13

The Virgo Class Frigate is a little larger than the Nirvo'Kor Class Destroyer and has a considerably larger fighter capacity. The Virgo serves as an escort vessel for PXE merchant, transport, and cargo ships. However, it can often be seen on the frontlines of space battles, acting as small carriers and cruisers. It's sheer firepower can easily hold off another destroyer and cruiser in combat. It's size makes it intimidating to pirates and raiders, making it extremely effective. The large warp nacelles and thrusters on the ship allow it to pursue and finish off often smaller raiding ships and they can often be seen patrolling the borders of the PXE to keep out intruders. State-of-the-art communication systems allow it to warn or request reinforcements from fleet or independent ships.

The Virgo is made up of rows of KP-3 cannons on the top and bottom to fend off a fighter attack, while the KP-7 cannons mounted on either broadside can take out larger vessels. The KP-6 cannons mounted on the front and back can also assist in attacking large ships.

The Virgo generally has lighter armor and shield power, mainly to allow more power to be diverted to the thruster systems, and give it more hangar space. While in atmosphere, the ship is lighter without shielding apparatus and heavy armor. The Virgo is also more efficient in general and in more practical terms, the Virgo will rarely need to engage in combat against large cruiser-sized ships (as its main role is to escort civilian convoys). If used in combat, Virgo's are usually accompanied by a variety of other, more combat-suited ships.

The Virgo has advanced thruster and warp systems to pursue pirates or raiders. It has surprising maneuverability to hunt down even the most agile vessels. The Virgo is equipped with large generators to sustain it for long periods of time, if needed to hunt down enemy ships. It can remain without supplies for up to three months allowing it to pursue enemies through long distances.

The Virgo also features an impressive fighter complement; almost twelve squadrons of fighters. While on patrol or pursuit missions, the frigate carries eight squadrons of Swallow light fighters, two squadrons of Phoenix fighters, and two squadrons of Fireclaw dropships (for boarding). While in fleet, it carries eight squadrons of Phoenix fighters, two squadrons of Swallow light fighters, and two squadrons of Finch gunships.

Question: Why is the frigate larger than a cruiser? Razz Seriously, this looks larger that your cruiser (whose name escapes me, unfortunately); even though, as you mentioned, cruisers should be the more powerful of the two.

Fortunately for you, that's really my only complaint; this thing easily measures up to your high standard of quality, the SNOT is excellent as always, the name is pronounceable for once (JK, but you do tend to pick some weird names- not bad, just weird) and it just looks awesome. Most impressive, as always. Keep up the good work! =D

Lol, oops. And thanks! I usually base the names off of celestial objects (mostly fictional) Razz

Size comparison. (Virgo frigate top, Centauri cruiser bottom)

Well, my excuse is that the Centauri is larger because it's wider mostly because of the missile wings Razz. I think the Centauri's hull is longer overall; but it's warp nacelles are small. Very Happy

Yeah, looks about right. Personally, there's a big size difference between what I deem a cruiser and a frigate when I build, so sometimes I'm a little thrown when people use the terms more loosely.

Not to say that detracts from this awesome model at all, just saying the size difference is less than I expected. Wink
