Stationary Defense Emplacements Empty Stationary Defense Emplacements

Meet the SDE-series.
Turrets:
First, the SDE-93 anti-armor dual rail gun turret.
Second, the SDE-110 multi-target missile turret.
Third, the SDE-114 anti-infantry dual rotary cannon turret.

Um...not much else to say here, since the Army is usually MAD's area. Razz I just built these a figured, "They ought to go to the Army, given their nature."

I love the naval feel of the first, and the third looks just plain awesome! The second is ugly but functional and efficient. Razz

I agree the first one looks like you could find it on a Star Destroyer, which I guess was kind of the idea. I like the third one as well, and I wanted to do something else with the second but then I figured it'd be too much work for something relatively simple. I'm still probably going to come up with something nicer to replace it, but it's low on the list of priorities for LDD, and LDD should be lower on the list of general priorities than it is... Razz

EDIT:

Improvements! And some switching around with names:
Turrets!:
First, still the SDE-93 dual rail gun turret. Usually act as an anti-armor emplacement, but can also operate as an antiaircraft emplacement with flak ammunition or as an anti-infantry emplacement with (explosive) grapeshot.

Second, now the SDE-110 quad-cannon turret. Mainly targets infantry and light vehicles, but is also capable of eliminating enemy aircraft.

Third, the SDE-114 missile turret. Primary target is aircraft, but can also strike tanks or bombard infantry units.

As you can see, they are, as the saying goes, "nothing if not flexible!" Razz

Oh, now you're talking! The turret designs here are nothing short of epic, though I'm not positive the second one could fire at aircraft, given that it doesn't appear to be able to elevate it's barrels (though I could be wrong).

Given that the second one is based on the turret of the Recon/AA (where AA stands for antiaircraft), that would be an incorrect assumption. Razz The cannons are on technic peg mounts, which you can see better in this image here:

I mean I can build another one with the dual Gatling guns no problem...

Thank you! I will openly state that I got the inspiration from a design Arik made for the missile box (and not surprisingly I'm sure). Razz I'm kind of annoyed that it can't elevate but then again it could just operate like a Javelin - pop out to a safe distance away and then WOOSH off it goes after the target. Razz

I must agree with AA... I want to see a fourth turret (the current ones are too good to replace Razz ) with the gatling barrels again.

I'm sure the missiles are self-guided to the point that they can make major turns like that. Think of it as a sturdier launcher. + moving parts = + problems and - durability.

Again, these are great little turrets, heavily influenced by Arik or not. Smile

Oh, no, the only thing Arik had to do with this was a random image he posted as part of his usual Photoshop make-the-design-look-more-awesome-than-it-already-is sort of thing. I could barely get much more from it than the shape and the missile's design. Other than that I had to build that thing from scratch, and the other two turrets are allll miiine, in fact, Arik asked if he could steal see the first one (SDE-93, the dual rail gun turret).

I'll go see about grabbing that Gatling gun turret...

EDIT: HERE IT ISSSS!!! Razz

Turrets:

Now added is the SDE-98 dual Gatling gun turret, which targets anything, but mainly infantry with its solid/frangible ammunition types, or light-medium vehicles and aircraft with its solid/incendiary/HE ammunition types. Like the SDE-93, there is a control option to change ammunition types as the extensive magazines are all housed within the base of the turret and the ground beneath the emplacement itself. This allows the SDE-93 and SDE-98 to be positioned farther away from the main location as it does not require constant reloading.
The SDE-114, having only eight missiles, must be positioned closer to the main location to facilitate safer, more frequent reloading procedures. This is counterbalanced by the SDE-114's supreme sensor package, allowing it to detect enemy aircraft long before the aircraft are in their own attack ranges.
The SDE-110, being an energy-based weapon, is usually posted the farthest out, never requiring any kind of reloading as it would be connected to the primary reactor buried deep underground in a protected bunker.
All SDE turrets act as a sensor node to form a single defensive sensor net, providing better coverage than a traditional early-warning system, although the usual early-warning system would be the IFF minefields spread out around the turret net, as well as within the net itself. Razz

Yep, these are all his. Razz (And very superb, too, once again Wink)

And in fact, the box missile launcher I used on the Stalwart was just stolen from a MLRS-style vehicle some built elsewhere on the internet, so even then you're technically not stealing any of my stuff, not to mention yours is quite different from mine. Razz

Though I'm pretty curious: is the thinner part between the turret and the base derived from the Dewback's turret design?

...As to the gatling gun, I'd love to see it return too. Razz

Uh, no, that was just to get the thing to connect to the technic peg I used as the turret mount, rather than a turntable. It just to happened to allow me to put on more transparent tiles to look like sensor systems, when in fact they're there to look "pretty." Razz

And the Gatling turret is back - check the last post I made before this one. Razz

Ah... my mistake. It did seem odd because, although very cool, these feel only SIMILAR to (read, similar style, but still unique from) Arik's work.

At any rate, well done, Jace. Very Happy
